The Bahía Blanca Port Consortium attended the Launching of our Country´s Bicentenary.
Last February 22nd /26th, Mar del Plata was distinguished hosting the “Tall Boats Regatta – South American Sails 2010” in the framework of the bicentennial celebrations, which marked the beginning of the end of Spanish colonial rule in the region. The Bahía Blanca Port Consortium together with the rest of the Buenos Aires ports participated of the event with an institutional stand organized by the Buenos Aires Port Activities Undersecretary´s Office at the nautical yard of the Mar del Plata Naval Base.

At the stand opening ceremony the Undersecretary, Louis Abot, emphasized “We understand that this is an opportunity to spread port policy outlined by Governor Daniel Scioli and enforced by the Buenos Aires Production Department. For this reason we give a toast to a space of communication and information at the event. We must remember that our ports are not only a place for sports and amusement, but more than 40 % of the national growth production comes to pass through their wharves”. The Undersecretary was accompanied by Río Santiago Shipyard´s President, Lelio González Elicabe; the President of La Plata Port Consortium, Daniel Rodriguez Paz; the President of the Port of Quequén, Ernesto Constanzo; the President of the Port of San Pedro, Mariano Veiga and the Free Trade Zones Provincial Director, Roberto Pollán, together with other local authorities and district businessmen.

The stand included a daily schedule where each port authority presented the advantages of its port and where information to the public and to the media was offered. On Februray 23rd, the main celebration took place: Prizes and attendance acknowledgments were awarded and a crew parade, a parade of the Argentine Army band, a parade of the Mar del Plata Sea Guard, a parade of the foreign communities associations and a parade of the nautical sports community were exhibited. Not only the Mar del Plata people but Argentine and foreign visitors that attend such an important tourist centre in the summer were present at the occasion.

The Buenos Aires Production Department Secretary, Martín Ferré, held a meeting with the Buenos Aires Port Activities Undersecretary, Luis Abot, and representatives of the consortiums and regional offices of provincial ports to deal with subjects related to port activity. Our President, Jorge Otharán, was present, together with Eduardo Pezzatti – Mar del Plata Regional Consortium -, Mariano Veiga – San Pedro Port Consortium -, Diego Escurra – Olivos Port -, Daniel Rodriguez Paz – La Plata Port Consortium -, Luis Herrera – Lower Paraná Ports Regional Office (Paraná, Zárate & Campana) – and Ezequiel Kristof – Dock Sud Port Regional Office. During the event the conversation was held on the promising development of agreements negotiated, sectorial agenda matters and the Ministry´s attendance at the bicentennial celebrations.
