The existence of the Bahía Blanca Coast Guard relates to the XIXXth century, and it was the second force to be installed in the Atlantic coast, following Carmen de Patagones. In 1829, the Bahía Blanca Maritime Under Delegation begins to work, and this is the first historic antecedent of the current Coast Guard.
In 1862 it is legally formed upon President Bartolomé Mitre signing a decree creating the "Regulations for the Maritime Police in the Argentine Harbors and Rivers" and on January 31st, 1882 it changes its name and rank as "Bahía Blanca Under Coast Guard".
The first person to be Under Chief is Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Cerri, under which command a new building is finished on Guillermo Torres street, near the harbor in 1883.
As from 1970, it is granted a new rank: the Bahía Blanca Coast Guard, specifically functioning in a new and modern building inside the harbor since 1982. |
